A New Direction for Tikka’s Competition Lineup

For years, competitive shooters who preferred Tikka platforms had to piece together their own setups — typically starting with a T3x CTR barreled action and then retrofitting it into a third-party chassis. That approach worked well enough, but it required extra investment and research. At SHOT Show 2025, Tikka changed the game by introducing the T3x Ace Target, a factory-built match rifle designed specifically for modern precision shooting disciplines like PRS. This is a meaningful shift for the brand, signaling that Tikka is serious about catering to the growing competitive shooting market without making shooters do all the heavy lifting themselves. Much like how a classic training rifle helps new shooters build fundamentals without added complexity, the Ace Target simplifies the path to competition-level performance. The rifle is available in three popular chamberings — .223 Rem., .308 Win., and 6.5 Creedmoor — with barrel lengths ranging from 23.6 to 26 inches and caliber-appropriate twist rates. The standardized T3x action length also means shooters can swap in other T3x barrel actions, offering impressive long-term flexibility. It’s a thoughtful ecosystem approach that rewards brand loyalty.

Barreled Action: Finnish Precision with Competition Credentials

The T3x Ace Target’s barreled action reflects Tikka’s longstanding Finnish manufacturing heritage. The action uses a dual-lug locking system and a cocks-on-open design, paired with a smooth 60-degree bolt throw made possible by broach-cut bolt raceways. Shooters who’ve spent time behind other bolt-action rifles will feel immediately at home. The safety lever sits behind the bolt handle in a conventional position — forward for fire, rearward for safe — and also locks the bolt when engaged, a practical feature for field and range use alike. The Ace Target reviewed here was chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 26-inch heavy-contour barrel. While not the heaviest barrel profile available in the match-rifle world, it strikes a sensible balance between rigidity and weight for all-day competition use. Accuracy performance held up well, with no complaints during range sessions. The muzzle comes threaded at 5/8×24 TPI, making it compatible with common muzzle brakes and suppressor mounts. A factory-installed 20-MOA Picatinny rail on the receiver is a welcome touch, removing one more item from the shopping list. Even shooters transitioning from a pump air rifle background will appreciate how intuitive and refined this action feels in hand.

The Ace Chassis: Modular, Adjustable, and Ready to Customize

One of the standout features of the T3x Ace Target is its purpose-built Tikka Ace chassis system, which ships fully configured and ready for competition. The chassis breaks into three primary sections, with the skeletonized rear stock connecting to the main body via a robust hex screw. Adjustability is a core theme throughout: the cheekpiece adjusts quickly without tools, the rubber buttpad can be shimmed for length of pull, and it also travels vertically along a rear track to suit different shooting positions. An included M-Lok bag rider at the bottom of the stock is a practical bonus for prone competitors. The handguard section is where the Ace chassis truly shines for customization. A full-length ARCA-Swiss rail runs underneath, while seven M-Lok slots on each side open up accessory options for lights, bipods, and other attachments. This blank-canvas approach mirrors how many top-tier chassis systems operate, empowering shooters to tailor the rifle to their specific needs. Compared to the simplicity of a classic training rifle or even a pump air rifle for entry-level practice, the Ace chassis represents the sophisticated end of the spectrum — yet it remains approachable and logically laid out for shooters at various experience levels.
